In Episode 13 of the The Shift, Kayla Grey talks with World Junior gold medalist and L.A. Kings forward Akil Thomas about his entrepreneurship. Plus, she sits down with Canadian writer and actor Bilal Baig to talk about their upcoming show ‘Sort Of', and how first generation Canadians are changing the national sports stigma.
Standing in the bowels of the Sudbury Community Arena, Akil Thomas is unmistakably clad in Niagara IceDogs gear. As captain, he dutifully wears his toque and tracksuit, but the team-issued attire disguises the fact that the LA Kings prospect has a style all of his own.
Here’s a fun fact about Akil Thomas, one of the heroes from Canada’s gold medal game against Russia at the World Juniors: When he isn’t potting game-winning goals with a championship on the line, he also operates his own clothing company, Zale Apparel.
The Kings prospect is also using the extra time to grow his clothing business, Zale Apparel, which has taken off since the forward scored the game-winning goal in the gold medal game of the World Junior Championship.
The boys then hear from Akil Thomas (1:07:36), 2nd round draft pick of the LA Kings and World Juniors hero. Akil joins to discuss his clothing line, scoring the game winner at World Juniors, his career and more.
